Few issues in business are as challenging or critical to the bottom line. Recognizing the work of your direct reports is not as obvious as it may seem. If done incorrectly it can prove to be divisive. Many times individuals feel slighted when the team is praised as a group. The real contributors are under-noticed while the slackers get the wrong message. These suggestions might help to motivate your team and produce cohesive action in them.
1. Let team members have a say in how they can best work together. 2. Hold meetings where workers are encouraged to praise each other, 3. Alternate responsibility for recognition among members at weekly meetings. 4. Have a senior manager present to listen to discussions about group and individual achievements. 5. Send an email to every team member at the conclusion of a project to thank each for his/her specific contribution to the group success. Copyright ©1998-2010 by Simon Skill Systems.
